From Proving Your Worth to Deepening Your Impact: Why I Built Alayned
I've spent most of my professional life in spaces that weren't built with people like me in mind.
As a Black woman leading across Africa and North America, I learned early that excellence wasn't enough. I had to be excellent and make others comfortable. I had to prove my worth, again and again, in rooms that questioned whether I belonged there at all.
If you know that tension, the one between your purpose and the constant pressure to perform, you know how exhausting it is.
Why Alayned Exists
I created Alayned because too many talented, purpose-driven women are living the same story I once did: overworking to prove their worth instead of deepening their impact.
The name Alayned (pronounced "aligned") comes from the Krio spelling, honoring my Sierra Leonean great-grandfather who migrated to modern-day Ghana. It speaks to both legacy and intention—a reminder that alignment isn't about perfection. It's about coming home to ourselves while honoring where we come from.
Through Alayned, I'm building what I once needed: a space where purpose-driven people can lead and thrive.
A place where:
Black and brown professionals don't have to choose between authenticity and advancement
Leaders can navigate complexity with clarity and care, not just grit
Organizations can build cultures where people and purpose flourish together
Success doesn't require self-erasure
From Obenewa Amponsah & Associates to Alayned
If you've been part of my community before, you might remember my earlier work under Obenewa Amponsah & Associates. Alayned is the next evolution of that same mission—refined, expanded, and ready for what's next. This evolution allows me to support leaders and organizations through Alayned's coaching, courses, and consulting, while also growing my work as a speaker, writer, and cultural strategist under my own name.
Both expressions reflect the same belief: we already have what we need within us. My work is simply to help surface it—and support the transformation that follows.
What Alignment Makes Possible
When we align who we are with what we do:
Our work becomes more grounded, not frantic
Our leadership becomes more authentic, not performative
Our lives become more whole, not fragmented
Our impact becomes more sustainable, not depleting
And here's what I've learned: alignment isn't just personal. It's collective.
When individuals move in alignment, they lead better. When teams operate from alignment, they collaborate more effectively. When organizations build from alignment, they create impact that's both purposeful and sustainable.
